Understanding the Long-Term Care Ombudsman program (LTCOP) is important for Information and Referral/Assistance professionals. This webinar explores the role and responsibilities of the LTCOP. The Ombudsman program serves as an advocate for residents of nursing homes and residential care communities. At the end of this webinar, participants will know when it's appropriate to refer callers to the LTCOP and what kind of assistance the caller can expect to receive.

This course provides an introduction to Adult Protective Services (APS). These are services provided by state and local governments to older adults and/or adults with disabilities who are at risk of being abused, neglected, or financially exploited, or are experiencing self-neglect. Participants will gain an understanding of APS, the history of these services, and the standard APS practice model. States have played a key role in shaping APS programs. The course will help participants identify state structures for APS programs as well as understand the federal role in supporting the programs. Participants will also learn about training, technical assistance, and other resources for APS programs. Through the course, participants will gain insight into the importance of public awareness of adult maltreatment and the value of person-centeredness in supporting individuals at-risk of and experiencing abuse.

While a long-standing challenge, the pandemic, and now the unwinding of Medicaid continuous coverage, are fertile ground for fraud and scams. Join this webinar to learn about the Senior Medicare Program (SMP) and its mission to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud affecting Medicare. The presentation will include common and emerging fraud trends including medical identity theft and COVID fraud, and educational products created by the SMP to protect the public. Attendees will also learn about the SMP’s groundbreaking effort over a three-year period to detect, analyze, and report COVID fraud to assist multi-agency law enforcement task forces across the nation.
